Exercise and videogames, these two words are barley ever used in the same sentence. However, a recent study conducted by Americas Council on Exercise (ACE) using Playstation’s version of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) shows that Exercise videogames can the take place of real exercise. Being a retired college athlete and Professional powerlifter I know a thing or two about exercise. These games are challenging “according to the study published by ACE the participants burned: 5.9 kcal/min on light mode (comparable to an easy walk on a treadmill), 6.7 kcal/min on standard mode (equivalent to riding a bike about 12 to 14 miles and hour) and 8.1 kcal/min on difficult mode (similar to the benefits obtained with high-impact aerobics).” I used to own this game in high school and played it once in a while in college my speed trainer and powerlifting coach used to say “If your going to play and videogames play that weird dancing game because you should always be productive even in your down time.” The game aids footwork, decision-making and timing while in an anaerobic state and overall fitness it is a goldmine for anyone who is willing to get a little sweaty and have some fun at the same time. And with Nintendo’s recent release of the Wii a lot of other sports games are making kids get their butts off the couch. Wish I had this kind of technology when I was a kid………
