Alligators are certainly good swimmers and can most definitely move stealthy throughout the water leaving only but a ripple. They do not use flippers or fins instead they use special muscles to change the position of their lungs in order to get this movement.
The alligators pelvic, diaphragm, abdominal and rib muscles all are used and work together to change the center of buoyancy. This forces the lungs toward the tail when they are making a dive, toward the head when they re-surface and then sideways to make a death roll.
“It allows them to quietly change how they are positioned in the water so they can strike,” he said in a telephone interview.
I really liked this article because I find alligators really interesting. I’m that person that watched the discovery channel about crocodiles and alligators all the time. I just think they are extremely interesting and cool to observe and learn about.
