Avian influenza also known as the Bird flu has been a
topic that has been in and out of the headlines. Recently,
worldwide there have been detections of the Bird flu
because many birds have been found dead and tested
positive for H5N1. In the UK they found their 11th bird
that has tested positive. Also in Iraq, there is a
possibility that their poultry might be tainted so they
recalled the distribution of it to other cities. In
Thailand it is a severe case of bird flu and lives became
endangered. A 57 year old man was admitted to the hospital
after eating his chickens that mysteriously died from
illness; and a woman in Egypt died of the bird Flu.
From reading this article it is clear that avian
influenza is a serious matter. The word influenza (flu)
means, an infectious disease of birds and mammals caused
by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae.
(Dictionary.com). Also influenza is derived from the Latin
word, influenza, which means to “influence”.
