Studies performed in Italy at the Research Laboratories of the Catholic University in Campobasso with help from the National Canncer Institute of Milan has found that a daily intake of 6.7 grams of dark chocolate can reduce inflammation and protect against heart disease.  In order to reduce the amount of inflammation in someone’s body, research has found that dark chocolate has certain C reactive proteins that suppress swelling.  Romina di Giuseppe, lead researcher, stated,”High amounts of antioxidants contained in cocoa seeds, in particular flavonoids and other kinds of polyphenols, might have beneficial effects on the inflammatory state.”  A 17% reduction in inflammation is enough to reduce heart disease in 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men.

I also have read articles that red wine is good for your heart and liver in small amounts such as a class one every other day. Here is one article that i have found. http://www.healthcastle.com/redwine-heart.shtml

This is a very interesting article, and I too have heard about red wine being good for your heart. It’s good to know that common everyday foods can be so beneficial.

To be completely honest, I am not a huge fan of chocolate. However, if it is going to prevent a future heart attack, than I guess I am going to have to start liking it. It just seems unlikely that this particular food would help the heart, even though in actuality it is not very good for you. I believe with more research there will be more foods in the future that will prevent heart attacks. I mean look at “red wine”. It just shows how research has developed over the years, and also how a type of food that people usually stay away from is now capable of saving lives.
