Study Suggest The Most Effective Weight Loss Diet

According to this study the most effective diet is a high protein, low carbohydrate at reducing hunger and promoting weight loss. This was tested among healthy, obese men among two different diets. It was found that weight loss was greater on the high protein low carbohydrate diet than that of a high protein moderate amount of carbohydrates. The participants found to have more energy and effective weight loss on the low carbohydrate diet.“An important part of this study was to unravel the physiological mechanisms behind this type of diet. It is known that when people eat low carbohydrate diets, within a relatively short time their body has to switch from using glucose as a fuel to using something different called ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are appetite-suppressing and they may have an effect on the appetite centres in the brain. It’s also well known that protein itself is very good at making people feel full-up”(Rowett 1).

I found this article very interesting and would like to learn more about it but my problem is that this was tested among healthy obese men. The effects are not studied among women and maybe with those who have possible health problems. So I feel like stating that it’s the “most effective weight loss diet” is a false statement due to the lack of studying the whole population. It is a break through to understanding more in a better diet but it’s among men. I would like to see more of a study among men and women and the result produced in those findings. Also adding in people of an unhealthy nature, because I feel like diet is also part mental because people have to want to stick with it and those with more unhealthy habits may tend to stray more or be less motivated. I have to look more into this to understand the real findings and just how effective this diet truly could be.

Even though it may be the most effective and people loose a lot of weight fast on the Atkins diet, it’s still really hard to keep the weight off after getting into those eating habits and it’s not very good for your body either. Also it’s a good point that you brought up that we can’t assume it really is the most effective since we don’t know it’s effects on women.

I totally agree with this post. I did this diet all summer i lost over 30 lbs and close to 50 lbs since the middle of last year. This diet along with a steady amount of exercise of weight lifting and cardio can enormously help you lose and keep off the unwanted weight.

I agree with this diet as well. I have tried this particular “high protein, low carbohydrate” diet and it has proven to drop some weight along with exercise. You are right though that studies need to be conducted with both men and women. It is not fair to say that these diets will work for everyone when the study was only performed on men.

After reading this article, I agree with what Kara had to say about it. To be effective, I think they should have studied people other than obese men. As a woman, I know our bodies our different and it takes different work outs and diets to lose weight. I wonder if the same experimental diet was done with women if it would have the same results? Also, I don’t know if I would like the diet very much. Besides the fact for my love of all carbohydrate foods, before I go run, swim, or do any intense cardio work out, I find it best that I eat a big carbohydrated meal before. They did suggest that your body will switch from using glucose as fuel to using something different. It is possible that if I ate high protein meals instead, it could have the same effect.

This article kind of takes me off guard because I always thought that a high protein diet will put on weight. That is if you don’t exercise. But it does all makes sense with the low carbs. People should try it if just exercise isn’t helping. But diets and excercise do vary from body to body.

I agree! I know people who have done a high protien low carb diet and saw great results. However, i agree with kara, that this should have been tested on all types of people, not just obese. Overall, i really enjoyed this article since more and more Americans are becoming obese and that research has found an effective way to diet!

I have to agree with Kara I think it would be interesting to see this tested on women beacue men usually loose a different way then women do, and they have an easier time at it too.
